Expert Review: Highland Homes in Grange
Welcome to Burton Knows New Builds!
I’m Victoria Burton, and here’s my honest review of Highland Homes in Grange.
Highland Homes in Grange
Highland Homes is the builder for people who want a house with personality. Their designs always feel a little more fashion-forward than everyone else’s. Think bold lines, curated details, and layouts that look like they were created with style lovers in mind. If you want a home in Grange that feels unique, intentional, and a step above the standard new-construction look, Highland is the builder that will speak to your inner design nerd.
Below you’ll find my honest take on what Highland brings to the table in Grange and whether they might be the right fit for you!
Can Victoria Burton’s opinion be trusted?
First and foremost, I don’t work for Highland, and they didn’t ask me to write this review.
I also include this next part on every post that I write, so I apologize if you’ve read it before lol.
Before becoming a realtor, I worked for a new home builder in Katy, which is where the majority of my knowledge of new construction homes comes from. Even after leaving and becoming a realtor, I’ve exclusively sold new construction homes. This means that I’ve worked with almost every builder that you can think of, attended dozens of walkthroughs, reviewed countless inspection reports, carefully read thousands of pages of builder contracts, and collectively saved my clients hundreds of thousands of dollars.
I’m one of the few realtors who has worked for a new home builder AND sold new construction homes as a realtor, so I have a very unique perspective and know a lot about new homes! That’s why my blog is called Burton Knows New Builds 😊.
I’ll cover a few FAQ’s related to amenities, schools, taxes, and HOA in Grange before diving into the pros and cons of Highland Homes.
Elegance
Highland Homes brings elegance and character to its new construction homes.
What amenities does the community have?
If you purchase a Highland home in Grange, you’ll have VIP access to phenomenal planned amenities. Once complete, they’ll include a:
12,000 square foot Harvest Hall Clubhouse
Community room
Co-working space
Fitness center
Resort-style pool
Event lawn
Covered pavilion with 6 pickleball courts
What schools will my Highland home be zoned to?
Highland Homes in Grange is zoned to Katy ISD, which is one of the top districts in the state. Right now, the designated schools are:
Robertson Elementary School
Katy Junior High School
Katy High School
In the future, there are plans for a brand-new elementary and middle school right inside the community.
What is the tax rate and HOA fee?
Tax Rate: 3.26%
HOA Dues (as of Fall 2025): $1,320 per year
The tax rate and HOA are on the higher side, which is something to think about long-term. However, the HOA dues reflect all the attractive amenities that are planned, and the tax rate is pretty standard for a new master-planned community in a great school district.
Expert Review: Pros and Cons of Highland Homes in Grange
Pros:
✅ Amazing incentives. Although incentives change often, Highland Homes is consistently one of the most generous luxury builders when it comes to incentives. They usually offer low fixed rates on inventory homes and insane amounts of flex cash (I saw $75,000 once!) for buyers who build from scratch.
✅ Unmatched quality. Individually engineered 3,000 PSI foundation for each home, fiber cement mold resistant backing behind the tile of tubs and showers, termite pre-treatment of each frame, a PEX corrosion resistant plumbing system, main sewer line inspections with a camera, and even more. These are all the things that Highland Homes does to ensure unmatched quality. You will still need to conduct a third party inspection, but you’ll sleep soundly at night knowing that your Highland home was built to last.
✅ Bold, unique designs. Highland takes design risks that other builders simply don’t. Their brand new homes have character and style, which can’t be said about many other new construction homes.
Cons:
❌ Ummm so about the cons…. I tried REALLY hard to find a con of purchasing a Highland home in Grange, but I honestly don’t have anything critical to say. Nothing at all. Not one thing. This isn’t the case with the other builders that I’ve reviewed, so I’m truly shocked.
One-of-a-kind
I’ve never seen another builder with an entire yoga studio in their model home. Highland Homes is truly one-of-a-kind.
My Honest Opinion
My personal philosophy is that I wouldn’t advise a client to buy a home that I wouldn’t buy myself. So would I buy a Highland home in Grange? Hell yeah!
I can’t name a single con of purchasing a Highland home, so my expert opinion is that purchasing one is a great choice! However, despite this glowing review, you would still need to conduct a third-party inspection and hire a savvy realtor to handle the negotiations, read your contract, and advocate for you throughout the transaction (remember that the Highland salesperson works in the best interest of Highland, not you).
